ROSSIZING Rossizing is a method of propagation, whereby a knife or razor blade is inserted through the base of the petiole and pushed downward through the crown (base) of the plant. The cut surface then dries and forms a callous tissue. New vegetative buds then form along the cut and produce new plants. This method is attributed to Henry Ross of Gardenview Horticultural Park in Strongsville, Ohio. I dont recommend rossizing any plants of Tokadama parentage. These plants are very slow , and this method will set them back even further.
Please check the box on the order form if you want your plants Rossized.

Hosta Hosta are a very diverse group of plants, which have been rated as the # 1 perennial for a number of years. Although they grow well in shade, most will tolerate sunnier conditions and some will even tolerate full sun. Foliage colors can be green, gold, or blue and margined or splashed. Many of the newer hybrids have red petioles. Leaf surfaces can be shiny and smooth, have deeply impressed veins, be powdery, and have margins that are wavy, serrated, undulated or piecrust. Flower colors can be light or dark lavender, purple, or white, with some being close to pink. Flowers can also be fragrant and sometimes double. Foliage heights range from miniature or dwarf (3-6 tall) to extra large (36+). Hosta prefer a slightly acid soil (PH 6.5), but will grow in any soil. They do require additional amounts of compost (manure, peat moss, leaves, etc.) to help retain moisture. It is also beneficial to water during dry periods. ![]() |
